Your Saskatchewan Party government will continue to make building a strong and growing economy our top priority in the upcoming summer months. By growing the economy, we can continue to invest in services that are important to Saskatchewan families, such as education, health and social programming. Just as Premier Brad Wall has noticed a new confidence in our province, so have I. Many Moose Jaw residents have expressed that they think Saskatchewan is the best place in Canada to work, live and raise a family. Our government will take the necessary steps so that our province will continue moving in the right direction.
Saskatchewan is moving into the summer months with smaller debt, lower taxes, rebuilding infrastructure, record-high population, and shorter wait times. Our government is also upgrading medical facilities like the Moose Jaw Union Hospital Picture Archives Communication System. I was pleased to announce the implementation of the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) at the Union Hospital recently, on behalf of Health Minister Don McMorris. This new innovative system will store diagnostic images such as X-rays, ultrasounds and CT Scans, and improve the access to digital imaging services for all Saskatchewan hospital centres when it is fully implemented. Patients in the Five Hills Health Region will benefit from a reduction in wait times and improved access as result of a secure computer system for the storage, retrieval and display of diagnostic images. State of the art systems are also another recruitment tool to attract and keep more health care providers.
I recently had the pleasure of handing out awards at the Provincial High School Track and Field Championships held at Gutheridge Field in Moose Jaw. I would like to extend congratulations to all 1500 athletes from across the province who competed this year. Our young athletes weren’t the only ones getting some exercise lately. Residents from across the city recently put on their walking shoes to take part in Moose Jaw’s ninth annual Relay for Life in Wakamow Valley. I would like to congratulate all 350 participants and Dayna Smith-Short and her organizing committee for making this event a success once again. Your hard work, dedication and spirit helped our city raise $150,664 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Throughout Saskatchewan over the past two weekends, relay events have raised approximately $2.09 million towards cancer research.
